Can houses be made of grass petals and palm fronds?

After all, they can be constructed out of hay. So I’m curious whether they can take numerous grass petals and compact them into some fine building material. Then maybe they can make the roof out of condensed palm fronds. That way the home can be naturally resilient to rainwater. And you can have a green home both literally and figuratively. Is this kind of engineering possible?
